ROOTED IN THE OLD

Embracing the essence of the past while envisioning a future haven, this exquisite weekend home on Whitefield Road embraces the spirit of a bygone era. Sitting in the Inner Circle area, a vibrant community in the city's historic Anglo-Indian settlement, the original structure paid homage to colonial architecture with its gable-tiled roof, wooden accents, and an array of cherished antique furniture and curios. Meticulously executed, the renovation process delicately preserved these elements along with the foundation of the original dilapidated house, seamlessly transitioning into the new structure. This structure harmoniously blends with the majestic presence of the existing mango and tamarind trees. With the strategic placement of RCC columns away from the trees, the load-bearing walls gracefully stand upon the sturdy shoulders of the original foundation, preserving the very essence and roots of this cherished property.

REPURPOSING THE MATERIALS

In reconstructing this home, the design team embarked on a journey to repurpose a medley of materials, breathing new life into the essence of the old structure while embracing the boundless possibilities of the future. Granite, cement tiles, wood, and roofing tiles, all carrying the stories of the original structure, were carefully salvaged and reintegrated into the fabric of the new home. Each material was strategically blended with new building elements, creating a symphony of old and new, past and present. The repurposed granite takes on a new role, adorning the entryway with its timeless elegance, inviting visitors to embark on a journey through the house's storied history. Cement tiles once faded with time, now find their place in the intricate tapestry of the design, adding a touch of nostalgia to the living spaces. Wood, with its warm embrace and rich textures, finds a new purpose in the interior, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity. The aged roofing tiles, weathered by years gone by, now grace the feature wall of the water cascade in the pavilion, standing as a testament to the enduring charm of the original structure.
