The designers of Adyar transformed the venerable old residence to infuse it with a modern touch. Nestled in the calm neighbourhood of Adyar, this residence seamlessly blends in the verdancy of its surroundings. Harnessing its green context to their benefit, the designers opened up the home to let the gentle caress of a cool breeze emanate from the neighbouring Theosophical Society.

FACT FILE

Located at the culminating point of a dead-end road, this east-facing home is graced by the presence of a 150-year-old tree. The main entrance unveils an assortment of two wooden gates that gives one the passageway into this sanctuary. Upon entering, one is greeted with a reflection of the exterior context transposed on the inside. The fusion of pristine white and wooden façade serves as a harbinger of the home’s theme. The abode’s entrance ushers one into the foyer leading to the formal drawing area, complete with an attached powder bathroom. This area serves as a waiting lounge for guests, allowing them to refresh without imposing on the family.

LIVING LIKE A KING

The living area on the ground floor is akin to living in regal splendor, and seems to be plucked from the pages of an imperial tome. With plush velvet armchairs and a resplendent white couch, it submerges the residents in an aura of grandeur. The brass chandeliers, suspended on various levels from the double-height ceiling, are reminiscent of the bygone charm. The warm hues from the paintings and the armchairs provide a contrast to the pristine white palette of the room.

The rust orange feature wall punctuated by a circular aperture becomes the next in line to hold the wandering gaze. A swing sitting at the far end of the courtyard invokes nostalgic memories of the residents' old home. The double-height courtyard becomes airy and light with the patterned light that streams in through the glass façade above.

A part of the upper floor overlooks the courtyard exuding a translucent vibe. This area is designed exclusively for the family, featuring vibrant bedrooms, family lounges, and an aesthetically designed bar area. The north-east wing of the home is thoughtfully arranged for the reception of guests. The spaces on the second floor flaunt curves that exude a regal aura.

WOODEN PALACE

The home flaunts the judicious use of wood while suffusing warmth throughout the home. A plethora of distinct hues polished on its surface introduces a captivating interplay of colours. The fluted wooden texture lends a swanky air to the spaces. The harmonious fusion of gold and wood brings in an unmistakable element of royalty.
