SHE Block

How can cities become more responsive to the everyday realities of women? SHE Block offers an architectural response through a network of breastfeeding centres designed for the Surat Municipal Corporation. Conceived as welcoming civic spaces rather than conventional service facilities, the design brings together privacy, natural light, ventilation, and essential amenities within a distinctive brick-and-concrete structure. Dedicated nursing areas, plug points for breast pumps, child-friendly washrooms, and a sunken play courtyard support the needs of mothers and accompanying children. By combining functional planning with thoughtful material choices and a recognisable architectural identity, SHE Block challenges conventional ideas of public infrastructure and advocates for more inclusive urban environments.
