Dr. Rafi's House

Sitting at the centre of Kerala’s beautiful landscapes in the upcoming residential zone of Perumpilavu near Thrissur, is a home that looks spacious yet intimate. The trees on-site are retained, and each space in this home looks out to the trees and the landscapes. With a massive 30,000 sq.ft. of land at disposal, the home is designed around 4 large indoor courts which also bring nature inside the luxurious spaces. Natural light and ventilation are equally key elements in this home, participating in close tandem with minimal architectural elements and a natural palette of materials. The architect skilfully segregates spaces through materials, textures, and elements, rather than structural walls, to keep the home porous. The staircase in the centre divides the public zone from the private segment, without compromising on the porosity and access. Movement emerges as an important design principle. The courtyard with a tree, the staircase, the courtyard with the swing and the swimming pool are some key highlights of the project.
