Laxmiwadi

Set on the tranquil outskirts of Vadodara, Laxmiwadi reinterprets South Indian architectural heritage through a contemporary spatial lens, envisioned as a retreat shaped by culture, climate, and calm. Learning from vernacular homes of the South, the design orbits a sacred central courtyard where a Tulsi Kyara anchors the house spiritually and spatially. Four concentric layers organize the plan, the open courtyard, an intimate internal verandah, the primary living spaces, and a deep outer verandah that filters light, air, and movement while acting as a thermal buffer. Salvaged Chettinad columns, a grand teak doorway sourced from the region, crafted stone elements, and a jhula aligned on the central axis lend authenticity to spaces scaled with modern openness. Landscape completes the idea of the wadi, with trees and plantings shaping shaded thresholds and seamless transitions between inside and outside. Built in eleven months through close collaboration, Laxmiwadi frames sustainability as cultural continuity, architecture where tradition, climate, and daily life coexist in quiet balance.
