About Project
Set within the verdant landscape near Kalpetta, Wayanad, Mango Showers unfolds as a tranquil retreat shaped by contour, climate, and riverine memory. Responding to its distinctive boat-shaped site and proximity to a river and coffee plantation, the residence is carefully positioned along the highest contour, informed by past flood levels to ensure resilience while maintaining a strong visual and experiential bond with the water’s edge. Courtyards structure the plan as climatic and social anchors, mediating light, air, and movement while dissolving boundaries between indoors and landscape. Private living and sleeping spaces open westward toward expansive views of tea plantations and the river, framed through shaded balconies and deep overhangs that temper sunlight. The eastern edge forms a protective buffer with service areas and enclosed courts, balancing openness with privacy. Rooted in Kerala’s vernacular traditions, regional materials, water elements, and nostalgic motifs are reinterpreted through contemporary planning and comfort. Completed through careful collaboration and site-sensitive craft, Mango Showers expresses sustainability as place responsiveness, where architecture, terrain, and daily life exist in quiet continuity.
