About Project
Nestled in Nashik, this residence is a powerful demonstration of how a home can be designed in conversation with its environment. The project began not with blueprints for a house, but with a vision for the land itself, focusing on planting native trees to create a picturesque view. This thoughtful approach led to a home that blends seamlessly with its surroundings, using natural materials like wooden windows, curved tiles, and a rat trap bond for the walls.
The home's design is a clever blend of tradition and sustainability. It draws inspiration from traditional Maharashtrian wadas through elements like its transitional spaces and doors, while a deep commitment to sustainable materials is evident in the use of recycled wood for half of the windows and doors. The interior is a play on scale, with a modest exterior giving way to a spacious and surprising interior with double-height areas and a cooling courtyard that serves as the home's "heart and soul."
It shows that by embracing heritage and prioritizing ecological design, a home can become a sanctuary—a place that is not only beautiful but also deeply connected to its land and culture.
