About Project
Thalayalam is a sensory narrative that bridges the geographical and emotional distance between a family’s South Indian heritage and their urban life in Noida. Designed by Ant Studio, the residence is envisioned as a "symbiosphere," where sustainable innovation, ancestral memory, and artisanal craft coexist in perfect equilibrium. The design honors the Tampi family’s roots—a blend of Tamil and Malayalam cultures—by transforming a modern townhome into a living canvas for their vast collection of art, artifacts, and an extensive library of 8,000 books. The home breathes through the use of traditional lime plaster and a central nadumuttam-inspired core, while the interiors celebrate tactile materiality through "saree-drape" brass inlays and banana leaf wall imprints. From upcycling hundred-year-old door frames for a handcrafted lift to the spiritual precision of a parametric brick mandir, Thalayalam is a masterclass in mindful design.
